Turmeric contains a compound called curcumin, which acts as a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant in the body. Studies have shown that turmeric may actually reduce joint pain associated with arthritis and prevent oxidative damage to the brain, potentially reducing the risk for Alzheimer’s. Inflammation plays a major role in the progression of chronic disease such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

From a reproductive health perspective, inflammation can reduce egg and sperm quality and decrease fertility. Decreasing inflammation is key to the management of hormonal conditions like PCOS and Endometriosis.

I recommend eating a diet loaded with antioxidants - like the Mediterranean Diet! Antioxidants are found solely in plant-based foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes and spices like turmeric and ginger. Eating a colorful diet is a great way to ensure you are getting in lots of different types of antioxidants.
